Given the close daily group living inside the prison, the inmates often rely on each other in certain degree, and when accidents occur, the mutual care among peers then becomes the crucial force. Thus, "Happiness Catcher" training was organized to create chances for participated prisoners to be able to help others by accompanying their fellows who have suicidal ideation.
The participators learned professional knowledge about depression in class, but more importantly, they got to undergo practical exercises. The trainer instructed listening and empathetic response skills, giving the trainees the opportunity to become helpers. Surprisingly, these seemingly tough guys naturally reveal their soft side when putting forth their caring energy!
