Chinese chess was used as the experiential learning tool in the course, “Chess is Life, Look Before You Leap,” to guide the drug-involved inmates to learn to behave according to the rules and make friends, and to nourish their mental health through the power gained from strategizing the chess. The final goal of the structured gameplay was hoping the participants would learn and realize the freedom of life planning and the responsibilities behind the freedom to make choices.
